Evaluation

Double Page Spread-final task.

Contents page- final task.

Front cover, final task.

Preliminary task.

For my preliminary task we were to make a school magazine. I choose to call my magazine FUSE. Designing my masthead was quite simple, I choose a font on Microsoft Word, and then editied it on paint. I did the same for my contents page, to make the font the same, and keep the standards of my magazine consistent.

Planning my Photoshoot.

When planning my photoshoot, I wanted to take the pictures in a location that was picturesque, and had a feel of being a secluded location in the middle of no-where. I choose to use a tumulous on the outskirts of my village and used a friend as my model. I wanted her to have a slightly indie look, so i choose some clothes that had a bright coloured face on it, the picture was almost collaged together, and I thought it gave quite a 'rocky' feel. I matched it with some long black socks and 'trampy' boots. Her red hair stood out and gave her a confident look, I think she made an excellent model. I used an acoustic guitar in my photo's and had my model pose with it, as if she was playing it. I think this worked well, and as it was acoustic, it dennotes the music she would be playing, would be soft, and the focus of it would be the lyrics and her voice.

I used a Panasonic Lumix FS10 camera to take my pictures:

The camera has 12 megapixels, and a range of settings to use. I set it to a vivid colour setting, which made the bright greens, from the trees, bushes and grass look extra bright, it also made the yellow of the daffodils and dandilions look brighter.

The other location I used was a bus stop in my village, it is a bit grotty, with a wobbly bench, bin and paint, and dirt smothered across the walls. The high brick wall next to it made a perfect picture for the lads i was using as models to sit on, and gave it a hip hop theme. I used a natural colour setting on this photoshoot, and added  flash to lighten up the boys. I also took too many shots so that my images were from different angles so I could choose from a range of images to use on my final product.

Mood Board

These pictures on my moodboard were all put together with intentions from my market research. I choose a selection of images that were relevant to the genres that proved most popular. I found that the images related to dance were filled with bright colours (mainly neon), the writing is very 'square', unlike that for Hip Hop which has writing following a graffiti style, the swirls and arrows on one of the images makes it look stylish. I found that with the chart music images, there were mainly iconic stars and celebrities representing the music, and helping to create an image for the genre of music. They too, have bright colours. I found with the Indie genre the images were based around guitars, which connotes that the music is relaxing.  I also found that the disco ball, and DJ decks were relevant to the dance music section.

I used the multi coloured glittery background to represent the fun and colourfulness of dance music. All of the images I choose were to help me with the style of my magazine. I have realised that I am going to have to use bright and colourful images and fonts, that are very busy.
